Product description: This is the confessions of Bill Hickman, who claimed that he committed murder by the orders of Brigham Young and Apostle Orson Hyde, leaders of the LDS church. It covers such pertinent topics of the time, such as pre-Utah LDS history and the existence of the infamous Mormon group known as the 'Danites', who were said to have acted as bodyguards for Joseph Smith and later for Brigham Young. The manuscript for the book was supposedly written by Hickman himself and given to a J.H. Beadle for publication. Although some LDS scholars have disputed the veracity of the book's portrayal of Hickman, (citing Beadle's critical stance toward the Mormon church), there is evidence that Beadle did not taint the book with invented stories. This is covered in the introduction of the 1964 photo-reprint of this book by Jerald and Sandra Tanner.
