Product description: As the Canadian Pacific Railway was built across Canada from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, division or sub-division headquarters were designated approximately 125 miles apart. For example, Field to Revelstoke (125 miles) is known as the Mountain Sub-division, and Revelstoke to Kamloops (129 miles) is known as the Shuswap Sud-division. The two together are known as the Revelstoke Division and Revelstoke was the local administrative location for the area. For over 100 years the Mountain Sub-division was known as the most difficult to administer on the whole length of the Canadian Pacific Railway.Since the last spike was driven in 1885 the largest locomotives available have been in service on the difficult Mountain Sub-division with its steep grades. At first these were 300 or 400 class engines which seemed like toys compared to the huge 5900 class that appeared in 1939 and 1940s.
